One Of The Most Boring Encounters!
This is with regard to the tour of New Zealand by the great West Indies. The tour had so far never witnessed any great action. Neither the West Indies, nor the New Zealand did make an effort to tackle the opposition. And expecting such aggression from the two teams which have all but given it up is something rediculous. The series, as most of us know, started with to tests, followed by two T20 games and then the five one day matches that are right now in progress. And much to our excitement, none of the games that have been played so far have bothered to yield any sort of result.
First the two test matches that were played in tandem with the India-England test series produced a boring draw. Let us blame the bad weather for both the tests. And even when the play was on, none of the teams out there did make up their mind to show cast their powers. This could be for the reason that both the teams out there have hardly any players who could really make a mark. And this has been the fate of most of test playing nations in this new non Australia dominated era. None of the teams are really bothered about producing any result. What a joke!
A draw probably would have heaved a sigh of relief for the New Zealand after their humiliating loss to Australia. And for the West Indies, rest seems to have not yet been over, despite five months gap between their last tour of Australia which West Indies happily lost 2-0. Both teams facing each other after having a 2-0 loss at the hands of Australia is another aspect to be noticed. And in the T20 series that followed, the first encounter ended in a draw, with the super over playing a major part. Anyway that is nothing. For, the second T20 game being able to yield a result.
This was the first instance where a match could yield a result officially. And things didn’t seem to improve any further whatsoever. For,the first one day match had to be cancelled owing to bad weather. The match saw West Indies being reduced to 129/5 after 29 overs. And the second one day match too was no different either. I wonder as to how one could play without any spirit. Forget about wining or losing. What would the teams take home from a boring draw. And I think that New Zealand are famous for that. The way Stephen Fleming’s men way back in October 2003 against India batted for nearly three days only to take a lead and see the match is not lost is still in my memories.
I wish that the ICC should try considering even such aspects, the was it is found dealing with something with slow over rate and verbal abuse. So should be regarding the pitches that are prepared and the weather that is bound to play a spoilsport.
